The PW Purpose
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.
History
Women's groups in the Presbyterian Church have a powerful history. Since the early 1800s Presbyterian women have organized themselves to support mission and combat social injustices nationally and internationally. While the levels of involvement and recognition from the denominations has varied, women's dedication to living out God's call through women's organizations has remained steady.
Presbyterian Women Groups
Presbyterian Women is a church-wide group organized at all levels of the PC(USA). Like the PC(USA) structure, PW in the Congregations form the basis for PW in the Presbytery; PW in the Presbytery feeds into PW in the Synod, and so on.
Join PW
Presbyterian Women (PW) offers women in the church meaningful ways to live out their faith in the midst of a caring community of women. For more than 200 years PW groups have strengthened the Presbyterian Church and played a major role in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and witnessing to the promise of God's kingdom.
Our Presbyterian Women meet the third Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. for Bible study and Fellowship. This year's study is "Jubilee! Luke's Gospel for the Poor". Various members of PW lead the Bible study but all members participate in discussing the text. Presbyterian Women participate in all levels of Church life as Elders, Deacons, committee members, cooks, hostesses, even decorators. A special mission emphasis is acting as clothing sponsor for a little boy at Thornwell Home For Children. In addition to sending twice yearly his clothing allowance, his Birthday and Christmas are remembered also. For information about PW contact the Church office or Moderator Bev McClure.
